The Raveonettes, B.R.M.C & 50 Years of Dr. Martens

1 Oct

Dr. Martens celebrate their 50th Anniversary this year, they’ve played a rather iconic role in the history of subcultures, from mods, skins, punks to ska. To mark this auspicious occasion they approached ten artists to record versions of cult classics to “represent the spirit of the people who’ve worn DM’s over the past 50 years”.

The most notable efforts so far come from The Ravonettes and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the formers version of The Stone Roses classic ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ is pretty sweet if a little predictable – how many parties/pubs have seen this song been played to death? Meanwhile Black Rebel Motorcycle club turn their hand to a less calculable yet equally amazing song written by the late great Ewan McColl ‘Dirty Old Town’ which has been famed by everyone from The Dubliners to The Pogues.

There’s lots more on the historical/cultural side on their website and you can grab the complete collection of Mp3′s here.
